Analybot Pick a GPS System with Traffic Flow Information
Choosing a Global Positioning System with Traffic Flow Information and
Route Guidance which Avoids Traffic Jams

Lake County Illinois has installed extensive fiber optics in order to control traffic lights in
the County.  Although cell phones have GPS chips in them by law, these chips are not
activated unless the caller dials 911.  The approximate position of the cell phone may still
be determined, however, by triangulating its position by relative signal strength from the
various cell towers in the area.  If a cell phone is located in a car which is moving slowly in
traffic, this information may be communicated to a central traffic planning facility and
directions to reroute cars may be transmitted via the sub-carriers on FM radio stations.

This means that we must watch the development of this technology and obtain whatever
GPS system is compatible with it so as to drive through traffic and be guided around it.

TMC stands for Traffic Message Channel and is an international standard by which traffic
information is encoded on FM radio signals.
