Excellent value and performance, August 11, 2007
I have used this scanner and its software for the last 7 months. It works extremely well, is
very fast, has nearly perfect software, and is well worth the cost. The bundled software
alone is worth quite a bit. Use the background OCR for scanned documents along with
Google Desktop Search or similar and you will be able to find things in seconds most of
the time.
I scan every piece of mail, receipt, or paper that I get. I can now realistically go paperless -
this is what I've been waiting for.
It would be nice if it had standard driver interfaces or Linux support, but I'm very happy
with it otherwise.
Not for anything other than sheets of copy paper, February 28, 2008
For the price of the product, and the advertised speeds and functions, you'd think all of
your printed material could be fed into this scanner. You'd be wrong. Snapshots will jam in
this device. You are locked into Fujitsu's software for scanning. And, you do not get
TWAIN drivers for the device, so you cannot acquire images from this scanner when
inside a program like Paint Shop Pro. This is a single-purpose scanner: feed it all of your
sheets of paper, and it will convert them to PDFs. If you have a lot of paper, then this is
your scanner. If you have a lot of mixed media, this is NOT your scanner. Find another
automatic document feed (ADF) scanner with TWAIN driver support.

So I read all the reviews on this product and I inadvertently developed some pretty intense
expectations. This product blows all of those away. Sure it's a pretty penny to spend on
something that only serves one purpose. I'll probably really use this hardcore for the first
few months that I own it (while I scan the last 6 years of paperwork I've accumulated so I
can go paperless) but I think this is going to turn out to be well worth it.
I picked up the scanner just over an hour ago. I got it all setup, configured, and I've
already scanned close to 500 pages (of varying size, color and thickness). This scanner
can really tear it up. 5 stars!
Here is another review of the Fijitsu S510:

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Electronic Gadget I've bought in a Long Time, June 30, 2008
By Nom de Plume (Columbia, SC) - See all my reviews
I've had this several weeks now and am SERIOUSLY impressed.
I've scanned about 2500 pages of old bank statements, medical records, bills, etc. and it
has performed better than I expected. I read reviews on this site and others that gave it
glowing praise. I expected something that worked OK. It is better than that by a long, long
way!
After scanning all these documents I've had maybe 6 or 8 misfeeds. I caught those quickly
and rescanned with no problems the second time through. And this is with documents that
were up to 30 years old. I think that is amazing.
Some people have complained (at least on other sites) that the settings were hard to
change. I disagree! Right click the icon in the system tray. Choose the "Scan Button
Settings" and then change them in two clicks. Could it be much easier? And, if you want to
change them for just one document, many settings are in that same menu.
While I purchased the version that includes the full version of Rack2-Filer, I haven't
installed it yet. I'm not sure if I need it because I have been naming my files and placing
them in folders in such a way that I don't have a problem finding and identifying them. I
might place my copy on eBay instead. So, you might want to buy the slightly less
expensive version of this scanner.
As many have said, this is not a general purpose scanner. But, I'm glad I purchased this
scanner for the purpose of going "Paperless". It has and will help with that task.
Update 12 Jan 2009 - It's now been 7 months on my desk and I STILL think this is the one
of the best electronic gadgets I have ever purchased! Works just as it should with no
issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Scanning, November 29, 2008
By Joel D. Ottenbreit - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a college instructor, I read a lot of books. I like to have all of my textbooks and articles
with me as I go places, because I always have time to read while I am waiting. I bought the
Sony Book Reader which requires digital media. I also like to have my books read to me
which requires digital print.
The Scansnap was more than I expected. I can cut the binding off of my books with a table
saw, run it though the scanner and turn it into a Word file in about 20 minutes. The
scanner is extremely efficient and the software is almost flawless in making digital copies
of the print.
