How Much Language is Needed in an Autonomous Robot?
In The person who cleans my home doesn't speak much English at all. All she needs to know
is "clean my home, here is the money", which may be communicated with gestures. If you had
an autonomous robot that could clean a house, it would be worth billions without speaking
anything at all. Would it need language internally in order to clean a house? How about
feral children? Could they be taught to clean a house without ever having learned a
language?
