Human Mind Works Like This
Humans have the ability to use all three of the above functions in a combined fashion which allows them
to predict the near future. An umpire is at risk for using his predictive mind to call a play when she
should wait for the "facts" to be perceived and then judge. This means she should wait until the "facts
soak into her brain" rather than "rushing to judgement" which implies using the mind's predictive
mechanism.
Part of the problem here is that the human brain has the illusion of working in "real time". The predictive
mechanism of the brain is deciding one second (or so) ago that in one second, the person will be called
out. The umpire can call the play immediately after it is completed by using the decision on her mind at
the time the play is completed. The problem is that her judgement at that time is a one-second stale
prediction. That she can make the decision "immediately" because "all the facts are in" is merely the
illusion that humans are aware of things in real time as they are happening. Humans are not aware in
real time--it is an illusion of the human mind.
