Narratives
Forster's examples to illustrate the difference between story and plot are:
The king died and then the queen died (story).
The king died and then the queen died of grief (plot).
Plot can be considered as part of discourse, since it is part of HOW the story is presented.
Nassim Taleb in The Black Swan, states that the human mind loves narratives because they are easier
to remember. Certainly they are more pertinent to survival in a social environment.

Stephen J. Suomi, PhD, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Bethesda, MD.
Gave a lecture at 2007 American Psychological Association Convention. Titled, "Up Tight, Laid Back
and Jumpy Monkeys", he described the importance of social skills in Rhesus monkeys, especially for the
young males who find themselves trying to relate socially in a matriarchal society. A good review of this
talk may be found at: http://www.aboutourkids.org/aboutour/articles/grandrounds12-15-00.html
