Red Blood Cells are not Optimal

When nature designed the red blood cell, it used the usual format of designing cells from
proteins. If we think of the job of overall job of optimizing designs, we know that nerve cells
don't conduct electrical signals optimally because of the restriction that nerve cells must be
constructed with proteins and copper wire is not a protein.  In a similar manner we can easily
deduce that red blood cells could be constructed to be more efficient if they could be
constructed, at least in part, with non-proteins and inorganic elements.
