The Inevitability of the Inorganic Man
Humans often see themselves as something other than a technology. Since they don't
think that they are a technology, then they don't think that they can be surpassed by
another technology. This is clearly the use of words to block off reality. Humans
evolved in the presence of plants and animals and therefore it is not surprising to see
them getting their building blocks and energy by eating plants and animals. But
evolution occurs in an environment and the current world environment includes
batteries as well as wall outlets, solar cells, windmills, nuclear power plants, oil,
natural gas, wood, coal, etc. In such an environment, is it surprising that we have
humans with pacemakers powered by batteries and cochleas powered by batteries?
Will it be surprising to see more and more organs being powered by batteries?
The inorganic replacements for human organs will only improve in time until they are
more reliable than the original.
In addition, one can replace the organs that require food with a single organ which
uses electricity and recycles everything else.
