The Uncertain Future For Social Robots

This is a new area which needs to be studied.

Meanwhile, favoritism is being shown for the robots. Example is given by Obama's jobs bill. In it
he makes it illegal to discriminate against someone who is unemployed. We know that
individuals like John Gutek and John Hutesebaut who have both spent too much time sitting at
home watching TV and doing nothing productive are less likely to "make it" as employees at
this point. So we make it a law to hire them. In effect, they can apply for a job which they really
won't be able to keep up with but if they don't get it, they can sue the potential employer on
the grounds of discrimination.

The president of PNC Bank was on CNBC this morning and he sound optimistic about the
economy. He did mention something quite negative toward economic recovery and hiring
people. He stated that the average company on the New York Stock Exchange had CEOs that
lasted an average of 5 years. During those five years, the CEOs will get to make an average
of one major capital expenditure decision. They are now not likely to make a decision to build
another manufacturing facility in the US because they now know that the National Labor
Relations Bureau can shut such a plant down on the basis of "fair labor practices" like they
have done to Boeing.

All of these facts make it more likely for a company to set up robot manufacturing plants.
Dealing with a set of laws which try to force you to hire incompetent people is a net negative
incentive.
