If you do not think that robots will take over the world
Even with the advances in robot technology, you hear people continue to talk as if humans will be in
charge in 25 years. George W. Bush wanted to put them on the Moon by 2020 but wait to study the
effects of space travel on humans before committing to a time table for Mars.
"The president did not set a deadline for reaching Mars, and NASA Director Sean O'Keefe, briefing
reporters later, said the timing of the mission would depend on the results of studies on the effects of
space travel on humans."
President Obama wants to put them on Mars.
"By the mid-2030s, I believe we can send humans to orbit Mars and return them safely to Earth."
The radiation that a human would receive in a six month trip to Mars would be substantial. The human
was obviously designed to live on the Earth. The cost of maintaining an Earth-like environment in outer
space and on Mars is at least 10 times the cost of maintaining a robot designed for that environment.
When Obama'a plans are given, the dates for placing humans on Mars or other planets is decades in
the future. By 2020, we will have the equipment to build intelligent robots and by 2030, we should have
the software to do the job. So, why does Obama set himself up for looking so stupid by making
statements which will never come true?
The answer, of course, is that human ego exceeds human intelligence.
