Persistent Robots
Persistent robots are those robots which appear to act inefficiently but simply do the job because they
have all day long in which to work. A lawnmowing robot could be designed to remember where it was
and go to charge itself and return to take up where it left off. Removing snow might be accomplished by
the same robot by constantly blowing the snow off of the driveway before it has much chance to
accumulate.
My dream robot can fill in low spots in the lawn by adding soil slowly over years in a manner where the
grass has a chance to establish itself before more soil is added. Eventually, over time, the lawn would
be quite even and beautiful. This device could drill out weeds and crabgrass and elimininate the use of
weed killing sprays. Alternatively, it could use weed killers but only where the weeds are seen.
