We started out this club by reading and discussing Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of
Crowds. What are the delusions of today? Global warming comes to mind, but a bigger one is the
perception of scarcity. The perception is that the US trend to import will continue. But what if we use robots
to make other robots to make things locally? No scarcity and no imports.
What if we use nuclear technology to make energy cheap? No import of oil, we use battery powered cars
which we recharge from nuclear power plants at night, the Arabs can keep their oil. Let’s declare oil to be
“evil” and “dangerous” while nuclear power is ‘blessed by God’ and full of goodness and truth.
The following device is being worked on: An inkjet printer (3D type) which prints stem cells and RNA
molecules to direct what type of cell each stem cell is to turn into. One result will be skin with veins and
arteries. Later on there will be liver sections which can be implanted to repair a human liver. The stem
cells will be from the individual who needs the liver so that rejection will not be a problem. In fifteen years
they will print you a new arm if you need it.
In addition, nanotechnology is making progress and Quantum computers are on the way. Smart phones are
entering the rapid ascension phase of their S curves.
The real news is deflation due to technology and the Extraordinary popular delusion is scarcity, poverty,
disease, high priced commodities, expensive food.
Deflation is a way of life at Intel where the motto is to “eat one’s children”. Shrink that chip and make faster
and consume less power versus last year’s model which we will make obsolete. If we don’t make our own
product obsolete, someone else will.
Multiprocessors. 1 million RISC processors on a chip with each processor emulating 100,000 nerves (which
it can do because it is much faster than the old-fashioned millisecond nerves). Looks possible in times
measured in decades if not years.
Abundance, wealth, Mars rover robots designed for 90 days still going after 6 years.
Oh, I forgot, we have scheduled a second Great Depression. I didn’t want to burst anyone’s depression-
illusion bubble.
