In 2004, the news media in the US exaggerated the shortfall in the availability of the flu
vaccine

In 2003 the number of adults in the US that received a flu show was 47.8%.  In 2004, the percentage fell to 43%.
According to Dr. Dean Edell, the reason was that the US news media exaggerated the facts and gave the public the
impression that a shortage existed.  The other result was that many doses of the vaccine were thrown away.

The news media seems to create news where none exists by exaggerating, causing the public concern to be raised
and then exaggerating the concern in order to create a positive feedback effect which causes a severe exaggeration
of the facts.
