Building Bone Vitality

Diets rich in animal protein, including meat and dairy, add acid to the blood.  This acid accelerates
osteoporosis by depleting bones of calcium, phosphorus, and sodium.  This occurs because the body takes
calcium carbonate from the bones to buffer the acid.  The pH of the blood must be controlled carefully.

One should do daily walking and eat a "low-acid diet" which consists predominantly of fruits, vegetables,
legumes, and soy products.  One should eat little, if any, meat, dairy and fish and a modest amount of
breads, cereals and pastas.

This differs, to some extent, from the Mediterranean diet.

All fruits are "alkaline" because their effects on the blood are to make it more alkaline even though items
such as orange or grapefruit juice are themselves acidic.
