Survey of Tea Party People
NYT hides who the Tea Partiers really are
Liberals: Tea Party types are a bunch of old, uneducated racists.
The New York Times polls.
From the New York Times: “Tea Party supporters are wealthier and more well-educated than the
general public, and are no more or less afraid of falling into a lower socioeconomic class, according to
the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.”
Liberals: Tea Party types are rich racists.
Alan Colmes has the comments.
The better-educated part is glossed over. When more than a third of a group has a college diploma, it is
kind of hard to smear them as mouth-breathing ignoramuses.
And the New York Times could have said Tea Partiers are more likely to go to church, be married and
work. The Tea Partiers are the squares.
Reading the actual poll results, I find:
2. What do you like best about President Obama?
20% like him as a person (19% among Tea Partiers).
Nothing, 7% (16% among Tea Partiers).
5. What do you think is the most important problem facing the country?
50% said jobs or the economy (45% among Tea Partiers).
8% said health care (4% among Tea Partiers).
Gee, maybe President Obama picked the wrong pony to ride. Oops, make that unicorn.
And here is the lollapalooza:
20. Do you think there should be a third party?
46% said yes (40% among Tea Partiers).
Um, so the Tea Party people are stronger supporters of the two-party system than everyone else.
22. If you had to choose, smaller government or larger?
50% said smaller — 37% said bigger (92%/4% among Tea Partiers).
So an overwhelming majority of Americans prefer a smaller government. Again, Obama rides the wrong
unicorn.
28. Reduce deficit or cut taxes?
45% deficit/47% taxes (42%/49% among Tea Partiers).
And on and on and on. Tea Partiers come out as a little more vocal and a little more anti-government,
but that is the mood of the country overall. It is not just a small band of clingers.
Other questions reveal what squares the Tea Partiers.
102. Will you fill out Census form?
51% already did (58% among Tea Partiers).
Attend church?
35% weekly or almost weekly (50% among Tea Partiers).
Work?
54% work; 18% are retired (56%/32% among Tea Partiers).
That’s 72% work or retired vs. 88% among the Tea Partiers.
Married?
52% (70% among Tea Partiers).
Age?
50% are 45 or older (75% among Tea Partiers).
Education?
25% have a college diploma (37% among Tea Partiers).
Income?
44% earn $50,000 or more (56% among Tea Partiers).
$50,000 is about the dividing line between federal income taxpayers and federal income tax mooches
(pay no taxes — many of whom receive refunds larger than what they paid in taxes).
11% earn $250,000 or more (12% among Tea Partiers).
So basically you have the backbone of society rising up. Good luck with that, Washington.
