George Chrysanthakopoulos: Microsoft CCR and DSS Toolkit 2008

Concurrency and Coordination Runtime (CCR) is a managed code library, a Dynamically
Linked Library (DLL), accessible from any language targeting the .NET Common Language
Runtime

George Chrysanthakopoulos (CCR creator) chats with us briefly about the new CCR and DSS
Visual Toolkit. You first learned about CCR right here on Channel 9. Since that ...

•        Decentralized Software Services (DSS) is a lightweight .NET-based runtime
environment that sits on top of the Concurrency and Coordination Runtime (CCR).

Microsoft's overall approach to Parallel Computing inside Visual Studio (improved
concurrency debugging and new runtime analysis tools inside VS). Of course, we also
address the high level issues of making parallel computing easier to compose on the
Microsoft stack and peak into the future. At PDC Steve et al will go much deeper into the VS
tooling support for parallel computing in several sessions. Parallel Computing is a major
theme at this year's PDC so I strongly encourage you to head down to LA and pay close
attention to our plans for making writing concurrent code reasonable and readily
understandable by a much larger class of developers.

Siemens Uses Artificial Intelligence and CCR and DSS Toolkit 2008 to Speed Mail
Delivery
Anyone who has ever puzzled over sloppy handwriting or had to guess at an incomplete
address can appreciate the split-second decisions required of automated mail-handling
equipment used by post offices around the world. Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc.
Infrastructure Logistics division is a leader in creating the artificial intelligence (AI) agents
and supporting hardware for analyzing and correcting addresses. While creating Delivery
Point Resolver, its newest product for correcting unclear, incomplete or incorrect address
information, Siemens needed a way to support multi-threaded processing to enhance the
speed and accuracy of its AI agents. The Concurrency and Coordination Runtime (CCR) in
the Microsoft® CCR and DSS Toolkit 2008 provided Siemens with the technology it needed
to easily coordinate concurrent thread processing by its AI agents—enhancing performance.
