Chromium OS (or Chrome OS if you prefer the informal)
Chrome OS is totally maintenance free, all the apps and the data are cloud driven, and you can’t break
the OS even if you try. Even if you can, it is beyond the ability of the low tech user. And it is the low
tech user who is one of the main targets. Take your friends who are constantly asking your help
because they got a virus or are confused on how to set up their new laptop which took the place of the
old clunker.
Chrome OS also uses a sandbox security system that goes a long way towards making sure that no
matter what an idiot user clicks on he or she can’t install malware or otherwise get into trouble.
Put it all together and you have a Linux-based operating system that’s ideal for either office-workers or
people who need a computer but don’t know the first thing about how to use one safely.
The main drawback of Chrome OS is that it needs to have internet access. This is only a problem in
some parts of the world and as every part of the globe gains internet access, Chrome OS should be
very popular.
It looks like Google finally got something right.
