Janice's lawyer: much better than Don's lawyer.  In fact when Bermar wanted a
divorce, I recommended Janice's lawyer, not mine.

Chances of a man getting custody of children under 5 years old => minute
Chances of a father obtaining custody of female children of any age => faint to none
Qualifications of Don having any talent at raising female children => Don never
even had a sister.
What did Don's lawyer tell him after he recovered his daughters?
She will come back and custody will immediately revert to her.
What else did she say?  She told Don that if she had had Janice as a client, Janice
would have gotten custody.  What should Janice have done?  Listen to her lawyer
and do what he told her to do.  From a lawyer's perspective, this is called "client
control."

What did Janice say 14 years later?
"I didn't know your address"
To which Don said, "My same phone number was active for 5 years and an
answering machine was attached to it.  You never called or wrote to the same old
address that I lived at when you left."

What did Janice say 18 years later?
She came to Illinois to visit her mother at Saint Francis in Waukeegan.  She made
no attempt to visit Janine and Dana.

What did Janice say 22 years later?  \
"You had a order of protection against me and I couldn't even leave Washington
State."
To which Don says, "How is that consistent with your coming to Illinois to visit
your mom 4 years ago?"

What is Janice upset about?  She is upset that her oldest daughter Karen didn't
respect her because she had Janine and Dana taken away.

Janice had to really try to be able to lose custody of two daughters under five years
old.  All she had to do was come back to Illinois with her mom and the money her
mom received for selling her home in Hoffman Estates.  The judge would have
given the mother custody.  They ALWAYS do.

What did their family psychologist say?  Tony Jones was encouraging on the
surface but later admitted that he thought that Don didn't stand a snowball's
chance in hell of successfully raising two daughters.  Don didn't have any reason
to believe that he would raise two daughters and that they would both graduate
college.  He admitted that to Dana at one point who took it personally and said
"you didn't have faith in me".  Actually Don lacked faith in himself and he had
lawyers and psychologists to back up his lack of confidence.

Life is complex and you have to stay calm and keep trying.
