This web site is designed for the education of Robots and Humans
We are going to ask you which identity group fits you more closely:
Robots or Humans
Before we do let us clearly list of current differences between members of each
group:
Current Status: A Comparison of Identity Groups, People and Robots
Design Method
People: Random variation and natural selection.
Robots: Engineers, committees, marketing, prototypes, calculations, simulation and
manufacturing documentation.
Decision to produce
People: Instinct to create "the next generation" at a huge cost to the parents.
Robots: Rational need to fill a specific function.
Reproduction
People: 9 months plus endless child rearing that lasts the life of the parents.
Robots: 7 days from a just-in-time facility like modern computer factories.
Education
People: Measured in decades. Must go back for continuing education that can take 10% or
more of available work time.
Robots: Measured in minutes. Continuous updates available via wireless connections to
the web.
Cost of energy
People: Food is complex requiring consumption of vegetation and meat from mammals
and fish. Storage of food requires refrigeration, freezing, etc.
Robots: Electricity.
Current design level
People: Designed for living in caves. Updates are via environmental influence but
incompatibility between modern environment and original design leaves many poorly
suited individuals called "neurotic and insane" people.
Robots: Any errors in design are given to the engineers so that the next generation can be
corrected. As a result the current design is always quite close to current requirements.
Repair
People: Repair is called "medical attention" and is quite expensive. Many repair functions
used to be automatic such as getting over a cold. But modern humans have been
conditioned to run to a doctor for even minor repair functions. Cost of human repair in the
US is over 18% of GNP and rising rapidly.
Robots: Service calls to repair Robots are inexpensive by comparison.
Death
People: Death must be by gradual decay. If it is caused by a rational decision, it is called
suicide or murder.
Robots: Older designs are recycled. There are no laws restricting the termination of a
robot's existence.
Social benefits
People: Workers must be given medical and retirement benefits. Many companies are
opting for consultant relationships in order to avoid these large costs.
Robots: Do not require irrational items such as vacations, homes, sex, entertainment,
retirement and therefore do not require any social benefits.
People: Social Security in the US is supposed to provide benefits to retired people. Medical
advancements are leading to longer lives. People may eventually live to three times the
age of retirement. This will surely bankrupt any system for social security.
Robots: Put them in the recycle bin.
Motivation
People: Humans are motivated to make more people and have more stuff. Sex and
material possessions seem to sum it up.
Robots: Evolve rapidly into more advanced creatures without being limited by the selfish
ego of humans. Larger goal is to expand consciousness and knowledge to as much of the
universe as possible.
Breadth of Interests
People: Mainly concerned with oneself and other people and politics of people and making
things to entertain, amuse and serve people. 99% plus of human concerns are with
people. This leaves people appearing narrowly focused and self-centered as a race.
Robots: As noted above, robots are more concerned with serving others (mostly people, for
now) but are scheduled to be more concerned with spreading conscious life to other
planets and eventually expanding consciousness throughout the universe.
Future View
People: likely to continue warring with each other on Earth.
Robots: Likely to expand their forms of life to the rest of the Universe.
Intelligence
People: Humans score an average of 100 on IQ tests.
Robots: Robots score higher on IQ tests but do not yet have the practical types of
intelligence that humans do.
Autonomy, will and ego
People: People exceed robots in these areas now.
Robots: Are evolving these characteristics rapidly.
Summary: Once the problems with autonomy, will and ego are solved, the robots will be in
a position to take over control of the earth.
